MGB-IX attends Regional TWG Meeting on Integrated River Basin Management and Development Master (IRBDMP) of Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City- Representatives from MGB-IX Office took part in a Regional Technical Working Group Meeting (RTWG) on the Formulation of Integrated River Basin Management and Development Master (IRBDMP) of Clustered Principal River Basins in Zamboanga City. The meeting was held in Grand Astoria Hotel on January 29, 2018 organized by DENR-IX and University of the Philippines-Los Banos. Participants from MGB-IX were Supervising Geologists Lawrence Zamoras, PhD and Paul Yecyec of Geosciences Division and Fabian Rubia of Mines Management Division. Other government sectors who participated in the meeting are from Zamboanga City Water District, DENR-Region IX representatives, PENRO Zamboanga Sibugay, CDRRM-Zamboanga City, City Planning Office, BFAR Zamboanga, EMR, NIA-Zamboanga Sur, CENRO Offices, ADZU,EMB, RCBO and other stakeholders.

This program is part of the mandate of RCBO of DENR to streamline various river basin projects in the entire Philippines together with the University of the Philippines-Los Banos as service provider. The team from UPLB presented the Midterm Report of Phase I of the project that includes:

  • Comprehensive report on climate vulnerability assessment conducted in the river basin
  • Comprehensive report of the findings from the studies conducted
  • Integrated River Basin Management and Development Strategy

An open forum and discussion after the presentation proceeded were participants asks and suggests additional input for the report.

The River Basins in Zamboanga City is clustered into Ayala, Bolong, Curuan, Manicahan, Tumaga and Vitali-Taguite Watersheds collectively known as Cluster 7 watershed.
